Yesterday I had the amazing opportunity of attending Google Africa's app Launch that took place at African Heritage House. The event kicked off from the Nairobi Railway station where we took a 30 minutes train ride to the venue. The train ride was quite an experience, we enjoyed the beautiful sceneries of the Nairobi national park and the newly built SGR Syokimau terminal.
When we arrived at the African Heritage House we were welcomed with refreshments as we headed to the tent where the Google team would give us a brief introduction about the new app. Google's country manager Charles Murito gave a brief speech about Google and the new app.
So basically, the "We wear Culture " project by Google Arts and Culture is a collaboration with African Heritage House and Mcensal School of Fashion in Kenya and over 180 renowned cultural institutions in New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Sao Paulo and around the world. Using the state of the art technology, the project allows you to explore everything from ancient Silk Road through the courtly fashions of Versailles to British punk and the stories behind the clothes you wear today. Iconic pieces that changed the way generations dressed, such as Marilyn Monroe's high heels or the black dress by Chanel are brought to life in the virtual reality. Traditional African textiles and costumes by African Heritage House are now available online as part of the global exhibition opening today.
Here are more photos from the event.
