I love the colour blue, I really do. If
you have any exposure to colour psychology,
you may have heard that it’s a colour that tends to conjure up feelings such as
calmness, trust and dependability. This is the reason huge corporates such as
Facebook use it in their logo. Men of power also seem to understand this, which
is why navy blue is a popular choice for high end business suits. So today
we’re going to focus on those successful men, and how they can dazzle in blue
as they step out on special occasions to mark life’s memorable moments.
I’ve researched a couple of blue evening
looks for men in Africa that I believe are worthy of the status of the
aforementioned men. Advance warning, none of the following brands is cheap.
They are the best of the best within Africa. So without further ado, let’s get
into the evening jacket style guide for the ahead-of-the-game Kenyan gentleman
ready to celebrate his noteworthy success.
If you’re the type of gentleman whose
sense of style is one of absolute simplicity regardless of what you wear, then
you may want to consider a classic look such as the one below. Compliments may
not flow as much as the other 2 jacket types on this list, but the confidence
inspired by being dressed in the jacket in question will be more than enough.
For the type of gentleman who prefers to
blend in, this double breasted piece by Tanzanian Sheria ngowi
would work wonders for you. As with all the jackets you will find on this style
guide, the fabric is top notch. And it still manages to include details such as
a waistcoat chain without seeming over the top.
The President in Persian blue.
On some occasions, you will not be the
main event, but more of an assistant, sort of like a best man at a wedding. You
have to look good, but not in a way that can outshine the groom. This look
tends to be for men who like to stand out without necessarily attracting too
much attention. A semi-bold look so to speak. Compliments will come, but only
from those who know you.
This piece by South African Linda
Makhanya is a lovely toned down look that
would work well for more formal occasions. With Savile row tailoring details
such as gauntlet cuffs and Scabal fabric, this piece will have top notch
tailoring enthusiasts commenting on your impeccable taste.
The King in Sapphire blue.
Now on some occasions, you will be the
star of the show and the centre of attention. Pictures will be taken by hoards
of paparazzi and you may have one or two very beautiful women on your arm at
some point during the course of the evening. You’re A-game will be required on
all fronts. If that’s the type of scenario you’re headed to, then the following
look is what you’re aiming for. A very bold look that will have compliments
flowing from complete strangers.
This piece by Kenyan King Sidney
is ideal for a subtle peacock look. With details such as a leather lapel and
silk-wool blend fabric, this is the perfect look if the aim is to steal the
spotlight and command the right kind of attention.
This style guide is by no means
exhaustive. Comment below with your thoughts and suggestions and I’ll be sure
to update it with more stand out looks further down the road.

Very nice piece. Blue suits are the only things that do not give you Monday blues
